parker aleen stevens,
"Careful when you open, It's easy to be broken
In the strangest fashion, You start a chain reaction
When You look my way, Something's pounding away
And I wonder if I ever felt this before"[/center]
She wouldn't, and she didn't. Instead she stopped just short of the edge, leaned her arms on it and peered out into the darkness. It was amazing in a sad sort of beauty, the grounds colored in soft lights, the soft sounds raising from the dorms; and the slightly off in the distance sounds of another party. She was supposed to be there actually, and only remembered when her cellphone went off, shouting out the loud tune of Tegan and Sara. Jumping away from the edge she sifted through her bag and pulled it out, only to confirm what she thought; Kat. Frowning just slightly she hit the end button once, and then once more to turn her phone off. That would get her shouted at, Kat knew what today was; but wanted to drag her to a party to cheer her up. Honestly, Parker was going to go; but changed her mind last minute in exchange for some guitar time.
Dropping herself onto the ground, she pulled her guitar case forward and flipped it open; feeling herself instantly start to ease. Folding her legs beneath her she cradled her guitar in her lap, her fingers tracing the heart shape as a smile crept across her face. There wasn't anything fancy about the guitar, it wasn't anyone's favorite brand; but a week after Christmas when she was 14 she saw it in the store window and had to buy it. She spent most of her Christmas money on it, and instantly ran to Darren's house insisting that he begin teaching her right that moment. The lessons came easily to Parker, and it were only thing she was able to learn without getting too distracted; something that shocked many people. Still she got the hang of it, and had been playing with that very guitar; one she couldn't give up until the neck broke off. Even then she was sure she would take it in to be fixed.
Opening her eyes she stared out into the darkness, and let her fingers wander to the strings and take on the mind of their own. She had no idea what she was playing until the words started to spill out of her mouth.
"Please speak softly, for they will hear us
And they'll find out why we don't trust them
Speak up dear cause I cannot hear you
I need to know why we don't trust them
Explain to me this conspiracy against me
And tell me how I've lost my power"
She stopped singing for a moment, allowing herself to take in the strumming of her fingers, and the melody of the music. Somehow she was able to let her mind wander off into thoughts, memories; things she was trying to forget. Still, she wasn't able to cry for the simple fact that the music seemed to calm her, something that she felt happy for, because it was what she was hoping. After a few moment of the repeated strings she started up again with the vocals.
Where can I turn? Cause I need something more
Surrounded by uncertainty I'm so unsure
Tell me why I feel so alone
Cause I need to know to whom do I owe
Explain to me this conspiracy against me
And tell me how I've lost my power.
As the seventeen year old continued to sing and play, the door to the roof opened rather loudly; perhaps as if the person were mad; or maybe they just weren't aware of how easily the heavy looking door opened. Still Parker played on, oblivious to the fact that the door had opened; oblivious to the fact that someone was making their way toward her. Instead her mind was in another place, another time; and her voice rang on soft against the night as she sang the rest of the song. Switching without missing a note into the next one she could think of; all the while unaware of the person near to her.
